What is reference attorney appointment?
If you have an agreed or uncontested Travis county family law case you may qualify for a FREE appointment with a reference attorney. The reference attorney can review your paperwork before you go to court and walk you through the steps of an uncontested family law case. The reference attorney cannot give you legal advice or represent you. An appointment with the reference attorney usually lasts about 1 hour.
Who can meet with the reference attorney?
You can meet with the reference attorney if your case is:
- A simple family law case, such as divorce, custody, child support, modification or name change; and
- Agreed (all parties agree on all issues involved in the case) or default (one party does not respond after being officially served); and
- A Travis County case; and
- Neither party has a lawyer.
How can the reference attorney help?
The reference attorney can:
- Review your paperwork before you go to court,
- Help you complete your paperwork, and
- Explain the steps in uncontested family law cases.
